Resources are used sparingly throughout the entire value chain. Zweifel continually invests in sustainability:
Thanks to our very own treatment plant, water used in the production process at the Spreitenbach site can be reused. This purification process produces biogas, from which electricity is generated.
Where possible, Zweifel sources its raw ingredients in Switzerland. This keeps transport distances to a minimum and underlines Zweifel’s commitment to Switzerland as its production location.
Reusable materials are systematically separated and, whenever possible, fed back into the recycling process. Food by-products are recycled for use as animal feed supplements or biogas.
Steam generated by the fryers is trapped and converted, so that the heat can be recovered. Zweifel then uses it to heat its own premises and neighbouring buildings in a localised heat network. The quantity of heat recovered corresponds to the amount of heating energy required to heat around 100 single-family homes.
The solar panels on the roof of the high-bay warehouse in Spreitenbach have been operational since 2011. With the energy they produce, Zweifel is able to cover almost half of the electricity needed by the logistics centre.
Zweifel Pomy-Chips AG is accredited to ISO 14001, which means it is committed to setting environmental goals and working towards them. This effort is backed up by a voluntary agreement with the Energy Agency of the Swiss Private Sector, under which the company is obliged to reduce its CO2 emissions.
In addition, Zweifel employs a sustainability officer, who also ensures that the company’s structures and processes are environmentally friendly.
